DAY 3 - China Adventure

CHINA ADVENTURE, DAY 3 (UPI):
Today we decided to have a go touring on our own, and it worked out just fine. First, we headed to the Pearl Market which we were advised not to miss. Plenty of eager vendors selling all their wares including toys, clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. We bought plenty of souvenirs, and the kids learned a thing or two on the art of negotiation. After shopping, we headed across the street to the Temple of Heaven, a sacred historic tower nested in a beautiful park full of Beijingers playing, exercising, talking, laughing, selling, eating. . .enjoying life in the heart of this huge, bustling metropolis.

From there, a long cab ride to Olympic Village on the north side of town to check out the "birds nest" and "water cube". Still very cold, we were eager to warm up in a taxi ride out to the much-lauded 798 Arts District, where there were plenty of art galleries, bookstores and restaurants in a renovated, Bauhaus-style warehouse district (complete with Chinese propaganda script on the walls). Then back to the hotel to prepare for a morning flight to Changsha and closer to meeting Lexi Raine.
